Our Story
Built for the Stories That Deserve to Be Told.
HAFA Art Studio was founded on a simple conviction: Arab stories, voices, and visions belong at the center — not the margins — of cultural life.
Our Mission
We create space — physical, creative, and communal — for Arab filmmakers, writers, artists, and cultural voices to develop their work, find their audience, and connect with one another. Through screenings, workshops, residencies, podcasts, and community programs, we build the infrastructure that independent Arab creativity needs to thrive.
"We don't wait for the industry to make room. We build the room ourselves."
Authenticity
We center Arab voices in every program, partnership, and conversation — not as a niche, but as the foundation.
Craft
We believe in the discipline of storytelling — the patience, rigor, and care that separates work that lasts from work that passes.
Community
The best creative work happens in relationship. We build the conditions for artists to find each other, challenge each other, and grow together.
Independence
We operate outside the pressures of commercial gatekeeping — which means we can take the risks that matter.
How We Started
HAFA Art Studio grew out of a frustration and a dream. The frustration: that Arab cinema and storytelling — rich, diverse, urgent — remained largely invisible in mainstream cultural spaces. The dream: that Fountain Valley, a city shaped by diaspora and reinvention, could become a home for a new generation of Arab creative voices.
We started small — a screening here, a workshop there, a conversation that ran three hours past its scheduled end. What we found was appetite. Artists who had been working in isolation, audiences who had been hungry for this work, and a community that was ready to gather.
Today, HAFA Art Studio runs year-round programs across film, writing, audio, and visual art. We are a space, a platform, and a community — and we are just getting started.
Be Part of It.
